I’m happy to announce a new feature. SheerSEO users know that you can find valuable information regarding your back links in the main referrers screen. But one important capability was missing until now, and that is identifying which of those links are new and which of the links that used to exist have now dropped. This is exactly what I’ve just added.
If you look at the “Main Referrers” screen, you’ll notice that a new combo box is added, called “Link Status”.
This combo has two options, the “active” option shows the links that are currently active. These are the same links we used to show until now. The other option is “dropped”. This is one of the new things added. It shows the links that were dropped, meaning that those links used to point to your site and now either the page that hosted the link is no longer available, or the page is there, but the link to your site was removed. One more interesting piece of information you can find here is the new column in the table, “last checked”. This date tells you when is the last time we checked this referring page for a link to your site. This can point you to when we decided that the link is dropped, and thus the link was removed some time before that. It is not the exact date when the link was dropped, but it can still help to identify that time. So, using the combination of those two (the “dropped” option and the “last checked” column), you can find major back links to your site that were removed recently.
The other important capability that was added is to find new back-links. This you can do by using the “active” option of the “link status” combo box. If you look at the table, you’ll see a new column on the right called “first seen”. This is the date we first noticed this back-link, which can help identify the new back links added. Note that first seen means the first time our system noticed it, though the link could have been there before that, specially when the site is pretty new in our system. You can expect high value links to be identified sooner. So, if you use the new “first seen” column to sort the data, you’ll find it easy to notice which of those links are new.
So, using the new “link status” combo box, and the new “last checked” and “first seen” columns, you can now find back links that were added and dropped from site. Hopefully, you be able to use this information to manage your back-links. Really hope this feature is helpful.
